Since faith is a spiritual activity, we can have no faith in God unless our souls are purified by the Holy Spirit to partake in the faith process. Being a spiritual entity, the soul is able to interact with both God and man/woman to bring divine revelation to us in the form of hope.
But remember hope is not wishful thinking that something good would happen in our lives. Hope is finding the relevant information on what we desire, and acting on that information to create the conditions in which our desires are realized.
Without the involvement of our souls, we can have neither faith nor hope; and as a consequence, we would lose our chance for happiness on earth and eternal bliss hereafter.
Faith is a gift from God through grace. We can do nothing by ourselves to have faith. When we love God with all our hearts, minds and souls, we put ourselves in the path of God's grace to receive faith.
Satan is enraged when we receive faith through grace, and seeks constantly to derail our faith with temptation. This should come as no surprise. As Satan tempted Jesus, so too he would tempt us. But we are not defenseless.
By hearing, reading, speaking and practicing the gospel, we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to hold onto our faith, keeping Satan and his demonic agents away, as Jesus did in Luke 4:1-13.
By faith, we become conquerors of the demons in our lives, and become living examples of what Paul said in 2nd Timothy 1:7, "For God did not gave us the spirit of fear, but of power, of love and of a sound mind."
